Chemical Products Laboratory

The Chemical Products Laboratory provides a variety of services to its clients. These range from analyses to calibrations/verifications of equipment and purity of materials. The trained staff members of the Laboratory are also capable of providing consultancy services for the research and compilation of internationally accepted analytical test methods. The following lists the more regular analyses performed by the Laboratory.

Testing Services:

Water

• Determination of conductivity
• Degrees of hardness
• pH
• Refractive index
• Trace metals (ppm and ppb concentrations), including heavy metals
• Total solids
• Total dissolved solids
• Total suspended solids

Bleach

• Determination of available chlorine content
• Determination of free alkali content as sodium hydroxide
• Determination of trace metal content

Limestone and Aggregate Matter

• Particle size distribution
• Moisture and elemental analyses

Hand Dishwashing Detergents

• Determination of active ingredient content – anionic, cationic and nonionic
• pH
• Rinsability
• Volatile matter content and moisture content
• Foam height
• Viscosity
• Performance testing – number of plates washed

Synthetic Laundry Detergent

• Determination of active ingredient content – anionic, cationic and nonionic
• Volatile matter content

Chemical Metrology

With the advent of the Metrology Act of Trinidad and Tobago, the Chemical Products Laboratory will soon be providing chemical metrology services. A survey of the laboratories in Trinidad and Tobago shall be undertaken soon to determine the capabilities of the country.
