Celebrating Constant Evolution For A Consistent Measurement System
World Metrology Day 2019.
For the first time, the revision of the SI will have all base units defined by the constants of physical science that is used to describe nature. Using the constants as the universal basis for measurement allows not only scientists, but also industry and society, to have a measurement system that is more reliable, consistent, and scalable across quantities, from very large to very small.
Legal metrology is the branch of metrology that deals with laws and regulations relating to units of measurement, measuring devices and measurement methods. It helps provide support and protection to areas such as public safety, health, the environment and trade.
Indeed, one of the main roles of legal metrology is to ensure that measuring devices used in trade provide accurate measurements. This is done through a process called verification.
