Promoting SME Competitiveness In The Caribbean

The Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards (TTBS) is a key participant in the IDB/MIF project entitled "Promoting SME Competitiveness In The Caribbean Through Technical standards".
The objective of the project is to build on the existing infrastructure of regional standardization in order to improve the competitiveness of SMEs in the CARICOM region. This will be done via the establishment and implementation of regional technical standards, in order to increase trade in goods and services and promote global integration. The project will specifically target the small and medium enterprises (SME) in the region. It will establish a sustainable "model" to increase SME participation not only in the creation of national and regional technical standards but also to increase their level of implementation of these standards in order to facilitate trade. The project will establish a process for technical training and create an information and consulting system to involve the SMEs in standardization at the national and regional levels.
