SIM AGM AND SYMPOSIUM 2005

TTBS Host SIM AGM AND SYMPOSIUM 2005

“Strong states have strong metrology systems and weak states have weak metrology systems.”(Birch 2003) Countries grapple with problems that threaten their very existence. They struggle for greater industrial competitiveness, more efficiency in the use of natural resources, more safety and better health in the community and greater degrees of protection of the environment. Success in the realisation of these goals require the careful application of measurement, proving then that Metrology is in fact important in ensuring national viability.

Metrology in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean

The Metrology Act of Trinidad and Tobago was passed through Parliament in 2004. This statute sought to replace the only other enacted measurement legislation, the Weights and Measures Ordinance of 1938. With the passage of the Act into law, Trinidad and Tobago joined a growing number of countries of the Caribbean in the development of an effective metrology system.
